In the realm of collaborations, a lot of brands have partnered together to release eye-catching sneaker collections. Although it is rare to captivate the interest of sneakerheads, the collaboration between Japanese brand Sacai and sportswear brand Nike did. This passion resulted once the successful release of the Sacai x Nike Blazer and the LD Waffle.
Before getting a closer and more detailed look into this Vapor Waffle shoe, let’s have a recap about these giant brands. Nike was first established by Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman, in 1964. Since then, it designed so many iconic pairs leading to a huge contribution to the sneaker industry development. The other brand “Sacai” is a Japanese brand that marked its presence in the Japanese fashion market. It was founded by Chitose Abe, in 1999. She has experience designing masterpieces as she worked on the Comme Des Garçons with both Junya Watanabe and Rei Kawakubo. Sacai is known for its unique style and premium quality of fabrics. The first cooperation between sacai was back in 2015, showing off the first double-layered design with double tongues, laces, and even Nike swooshes. The Sacai x Nike vaporWaffle was first spotted during the Paris Fashion Week in the 2020 winter/ autumn season. The Vapor Waffle comes with a very unique look, designed to be a mash-up of the Nike Vaporfly and the Nike Waffle Racer.
This Nike VaporWaffle x Sacai comes with a double-everything design concept, it features double Swoosh logos, tongues, laces, and even midsole. The upper is built with premium materials: mesh, suede, and leather in the heel cup and the back tab. The midsole is what is turning most heads, however, as it consists of 3 separate soles stacked on top of each other. Nike and Sacai worked on the technology of this unique pair, which develops responsive cushioning and cutting-edge technology to deliver the needed support and comfort. Despite the pair’s functionality, its look is versatile to a wide range of styles and outfits whether street style or for sport style.
In a similar fashion to the previous Nike x Sacai releases, the shoe has got some pretty heavy backlash, but there does still seem to be some sneakerheads who like the modern design. It is essential to remember that the Sacai x Nike LD Waffle also featured multiple soles stacked on each other, and was still very popular, however in this case, there is a third sole that sticks upwards, which has got some people wandering whether the shoe could survive if the back of it was stepped on.
