The Air Jordan 6 is one of Jordan Brands’ most memorable silhouettes, from when it was initially released, up until the present day. Originally released 29 years ago, the fans’ favorite has been re-released many times over the years, most recently in a “Hare” colorway that references Michael Jordan’s involvement in Space Jam, in order to drum up excitement for the sequel releasing next year.<\/p>\n
The Air Jordan 6 traditionally comes in a leather upper, with a TPU pull tab on the heel. Important details include the plastic tongue, the lace lock, and the accentuated padding around the ankle. The sole contains a Nike Air unit in the heel, that is encased in a standard Polyurethane foam, and the iconic Jumpman logo is placed on the outsole. This model’s looks are a big part of why it is so popular, particularly its eccentric style and high cut. The shoe’s paneling presents lots of opportunities for all kinds of color schemes, and the Jordan branding is instantly recognizable.<\/p>\n
The Air Jordan 6 came out in 1991 and was designed by Tinker Hatfield, who also created the Air Jordan 3 through 15. It showed a shift in the look of the Air Jordan signature line, as it was unlike any of the previous models, but very similar to the Air Jordan 7 and 8 that followed it. The sneaker was first retro-ed 9 years later, in 2000, however as Jordan Brand had recently become a company in their own right, even though they were still owned by Nike, the Jumpman logo was featured on the heel, instead of the classic Nike Air branding.<\/p>\n
One of the reasons that the Air Jordan 6 is so popular, is that not only was it worn by Michael Jordan, but it was the sneaker he wore when he won his first championship. He would then go on to win another 2 in the next 2 years, leading the Air Jordan 6,7, and 8 to become infamous for their involvement in Jordan’s first 3-peat. This has been the inspiration for many an Air Jordan 6, but most notably the Air Jordan 6 “Reflections of a Champion” that came out last year, which was covered entirely in 3M reflective material.<\/p>\n
The Air Jordan 6 has seen a slight resurgence in the last year, starting with the re-release of one of the original Air Jordan 6’s, the Air Jordan 6 Infrared. Since then, the silhouette returned courtesy of Travis Scott, who created a re-vamped version of the model that was not only released in October of last year but was also worn by the Houston rapper himself during the Super Bowl LIII half-time show. There are also rumors of a second Travis Scott Air Jordan 6 existing, and the iconic Air Jordan 6 Carmine is expected to return in 2021, so the hype surrounding this sneaker looks to be here to stick around.<\/p>\n
We haven’t got official word of another Air Jordan 6 coming out this year, so it could be some time before we see it again. That being said, if you would like a pair for yourself, they can be found on resale sites like StockX and Goat, and a few colorways are still available in a couple of sizes from Nike’s online store.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
